Psalm of the Week

The idea: Live with the psalm for the week: read it daily or at least a few times during the week; share any insights, revelations, words of challenge or comfort you receive; share your thoughts with others - either here or Sunday morning during our time of sharing praises and concerns during worship.

Psalm 22:23-31

You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him. From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him. The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord. May your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. To him, indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and I shall live for him. Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord, and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.

God never turns away from us in the midst of our troubles, even though sometimes I find it hard to know what to say or do for someone that is sick or in pain. I think our church is a prime example of God's intentions in this scripture. Our congregation is always there to support those that are sick, hurting, or just needing a hug. The cold weather shelter shows our compassion toward the less-fortunate, cold, and hurting...the Care Cupboard feeding the hungry, thus giving them all hope. You can see God's infectious love in our church family, giving us the courage for our faithfulness so we can carry out his love to all of his children.

Thanks for your comment Lynne. I really love where it says that God "did not hide his face from me." I almost posted this passage from The Message interpretation... the first couple verses are:

"He has never let you down, never looked the other way when you were being kicked around. He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening."

Always there... always listening... No matter what!

It is so comforting to be reminded of this... I do love the psalms!
